Sustainability encompasses economic, environmental, and social aspects, all interconnected with issues like consumerism, capitalism, and colonialism, which contribute to the climate crisis. This is evident in the plight of refugees risking dangerous sea crossings, reflecting the indifference governments show toward environmental degradation. My project aims to highlight these interconnected issues through various mediums, offering fresh perspectives on societal values. For example, the migration crisis has created a billion-dollar counterfeit life jacket industry, contrasting with safer, authentic alternatives. My coffee-themed artwork, inspired by time spent in a coffee shop, reimagines coffee waste as nourishment for the soil, symbolizing Mother Earth, while incorporating female sculptural shapes to shed light on gender disparities in the global coffee industry. Women in coffee farming face challenges like limited access to resources and training, which hinders sustainability and economic growth. Empowering women in coffee production can improve efficiency, yields, and profits, benefiting their families and communities by promoting better health, education, and living conditions. By integrating these themes, the project underscores the connection between environmental sustainability, gender equality, and economic prosperity in the coffee industry and beyond.
